No data = no licence

Live data, submitted by the public, that will make effective national management a reality

Transform predation monitoring from idle comments into real-time, defensible evidence, empowering clubs and fisheries to act, while automatically compiling the rigorous proof required for regulatory action and policy change

Our proprietary, trademarked geospatial algorithm is designed to sanitize unstructured reports regarding avian populations

It addresses the "Observer Inflation" anomaly—where multiple independent observers report the same biological entity, resulting in statistically invalid population sums

Supporting & funding new solutions

It's not all about applying for licences and reducing the numbers, we're also helping fund and support research into non-lethal deterrents, working with James Rice from the University of Plymouth on a study on 'The effectiveness of Targeted Acoustic Startle Technology (TAST) in deterring cormorants on freshwater fisheries'

Frequently asked questions

What is Hydroscape-Group?

HydroScape-Group is the UK's verified predation monitoring network, empowering anglers and fishery managers to transform anecdotal sightings into legally defensible evidence for conservation, licencing applications and policy change

Why is it necessary?

It is necessary because regulatory bodies reject anecdotal reports and comments about predation, demanding verified, quantitative evidence to authorize the management licences essential for protecting threatened fish stocks.

Isn't this happening already?

The simple answer is; nowhere near enough!

Cormorants are devastating UK fisheries on a widespread basis, with some venues losing nearly 100% year groups of junior fish, unbalancing the ecology and leaving a growing hole in future populations

Unfortunately the angling community loves to comment on Facebook but hates being the solution

There is currently a national cap of 3000 cormorants able to be licenced for lethal control in England each year - THIS HAS NEVER BEEN HIT!

Until it is, there will be no change

What happens to the data?

We securely aggregate and anonymize crowdsourced sighting data to generate the verified, defensible evidence required by regulators to authorize necessary predation management and protect the future of UK fisheries.

Simply put; provide the data, we'll work on the licences! Once we reach the 3000 cap and data shows this isn't enough we can work on policy change and the next steps

What should I do next?

Keep reporting!
If you're out on the bank report every cormorant you see. Simply doing that means you're part of the solution. To make it even easier, add the app to your mobile home screen for easy access, anytime
